New South Wales Police unveil new armored vehicle fleet, featuring LIBERATOR ETS

The New South Wales (NSW) Police Force in Australia has unveiled the latest addition(s) to their fleet – (5) Lenco BearCat G2 armored vehicles.

In an Australia first, one of the new BearCats is equipped with the LIBERATOR Elevated Tactics System, allowing officers from the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU) to access multi-story buildings/residences and commercial aircraft rapidly, efficiently, and safely. The LIBERATOR vehicle will be stationed in Sydney so that it can respond to metropolitan high-risk incidents quickly, while the other (4) vehicles will be stationed strategically throughout the state.

The acquisition and deployment of the LIBERATOR Elevated Tactics System by NSW marks a first-time capability by police tactical groups in Australia and will prove to be a unique tactical and rescue resource in support of tactical operations, counter terrorism and riot response.

Minister for Police & Counter-Terrorism, Yasmin Catley, said the custom vehicles would greatly improve the capability of the TOU to respond to and disrupt high-risk situations across the state, “the NSW Police Force is world class so it’s only fitting they have modern resources and technology to fight crime and keep our community safe.” While NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said the vehicles were the latest weapon to protect our police during potential acts of terrorism, “This is about protecting our specialist officers.”

The LIBERATOR ETS and Lenco BearCat vehicles were acquired after an extensive 3-year long, test and evaluation period amongst the worlds leading manufacturers, with ultimately Lenco and PATRIOT3 being chosen. Both companies, along with Australian armored vehicle experts, worked closely in the custom design and development of these vehicles for NSW Police operations.
