Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI)

Overview:

The UASI program focuses on enhancing regional preparedness in major metropolitan areas. The UASI program directly supports the National Priority on expanding regional collaboration in the National Preparedness Guidelines and is intended to assist participating jurisdictions in developing integrated regional systems for prevention, protection, response, and recovery. Consistent with the 9/11 Act, states are required to ensure that at least 25 percent of UASI appropriated funds are dedicated towards law enforcement terrorism prevention-oriented planning, organization, training, exercise, and equipment activities, including those activities which support the development and operation of fusion centers.

Eligibility:

The SAA is the only entity eligible to apply to FEMA for UASI funds. Prospective recipients for the UASI program include the 64 highest risk Urban Areas.

COPS Secure Our Schools (SOS) Grant Program

The COPS Secure Our Schools (SOS) grant program provides funding to law enforcement agencies to assist with the development of school safety resources and provide improved security at schools and on school grounds. This program will fund up to 50% of the total cost to implement one or more of the following options: Placement of use of metal detectors, Locks, Lighting, Security Assessments, Security Training of personnel and students, Coordination with local law enforcement, and Any other measyres that may provide a significant improvement in security.

Eligibility:

This program is open to all law enforcement agencies nationwide. The application process will be competitive, and as such it is recommended that interested law enforcement agencies use this time, early in the solicitation period, to contact and develop partnerships with area schools that need to enhance or improve school safety and security equipment and /or measures.

All interested agencies should be aware that the registration process to apply for funds through Grants.gov is a multi-step process, and can take two to three weeks to complete. Agencies are strongly encouraged to begin the registration process immediately to avoid any problems or delays when submitting applications. EMHE Grant Application Materials

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS), in partnership with our colleagues at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), is delighted to announce the opening of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2010 Emergency Management for Higher Education (EMHE) grant competition (CFDA #84.184T). 

 

The EMHE Grant program supports efforts by institutions of higher education (IHEs) to develop, or review and improve, and fully integrate, campus-based all-hazards emergency management planning efforts within the framework of the four phases of emergency management (Prevention-Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery).  To be considered for an award under this competition, an applicant must be considered an IHE, or a consortia thereof and cannot have previously received a grant under the EMHE program (CFDA #84.184T).
